This is a photo based powerpoint. It outlines interesting facts about snails and includes a bunch of linked sensory ideas . Each slide consists of one simple phrase with a corresponding photograph and activity suggestion. There are opportunities for learning body parts, making simple choices and showing simple preferences. The slide show was successfully used with SLD and PMLD sensory learners in KS3 and KS4; we also looked after three pet snails for the term that we focused on this topic in our Science work. . It could easily be used with students in EYFS, KS1 and KS2. We used different parts of the slide show over a half term period in the sensory science sessions. The students loved watching the snails and taking responsibilities to look after them by giving them fresh food and using a water spray to keep their fish tank home moist.

This is a photo based powerpoint. It outlines interesting facts about the octopus and includes a bunch of linked sensory ideas. The slide show was successfully used with SLD and PMLD sensory learners in KS3 and KS4 as we explored a pirate topic sourced from PMLD units on the website: http://www.nicurriculum.org.uk/curriculum_microsite/SEN_PMLD_thematic_units/index.asp We used the slide show over a few weeks and focused in on the pages that were most interesting to the student group. We spent one week making ink jet pictures using syringes; be ready for a mess, but it was lots of fun. We spent another week exploring lots of different stretchy materials including some homemade slime :) Check what resources you have; we also had squigz sucker toys that were great to use in these sessions. Edit, adapt and extend the slide show; an octopus is also very slimy, but I haven’t included this as I couldn’t find a licence free photo to fit :)
